Hi, well I am back at work again now after having a good two weeks holiday, although the weather wasn’t particularly good, and it went way to quickly!
We didn’t manage to get to the beach which was a shame and only had a couple of BBQ’s on the last weekend of the holiday, but we did manage to do quite a few things, which was great. The first week we mostly did a lot of painting as we needed to lighten the hallway up as it was way too dark in there, especially during the darker days. So we painted it all a light sandy colour and I think it looks a lot better now.
Also during the first week, we went off and visited a few places in Devon. We managed to go to Barnstaple, Braunton, Saunton Sands, Croyde and Illfracombe in North Devon all on the same day. It was very tiring but highly enjoyable! The weather stayed good for most of the day, up until about 4pm when we were leaving Braunton. We had a good look around the places we stopped at. Barnstaple was like a normal town (like Plymouth really) with nothing out of the ordinary apart from having to walk across a bridge to get from the car park to the town centre!?! We had never been to Barnstaple before so it was something new anyway. Braunton was a very small village made up mostly of restaurants and Surf shops. Nothing much there at all, so we didn’t stay long. I had been there once before, over 10 years ago and it didn’t look at all like I remembered it. We then drove past Saunton Sands and stopped on the cliff to have a look down at the Surfers and the rain that was coming in from the sea. Then we went on through Croyde and made our way to Illfracombe. By this time it was absolutely pouring down, which was a major shame. Even so, we parked up in Illfracombe, but Ben in his pram with the rain jacket on and went for a walk. It was quite quiet there and lots of shops had closed, I guess because of the weather, but we had a good walk from the car park (which was on the cliffs) through the resort-like area and ended up at the harbour. We did have a nose in some shops on the way and bought some lovely fudge, and finally had fish and chips back at the car. Unfortunately, the fish was horrible, which was a shame.
Later on in the week we went out to Tavistock for a look around and Ben had a go on the swings, and the weather was good after a heavy shower to start with.
The following weekend we went to Polperro as we had never had a proper look around their before. I had been there once before for a meeting for work, but Kelly and Ben had never been. There wasn’t really much to look at but we had a nice walk through the town and out to the harbour. We then met up with Mum, Darren, Marina, Robbie and Myra at Smugglers Rest at Talland Bay for a meal. There was also a band playing and they were great, and so was the food as usual. I had a lovely mixed grill which completely filled me up! Luckily the weather was pretty good for a change, so we all had a good time, especially Ben who had several people we didn’t know wave him goodbye after he was stood on the table dancing. 😉
During the second week of my holiday, we didn’t really go anywhere at all. Just lazed about at home. We did go down to my Grandpa’s house in St Columb Major with my Mum for the day, and took Ben to the park and had fish and chips for dinner. It was a very nice day, but went very quickly!
So all in all, the holiday was very nice but went too quickly as usual and I didn’t really want to go back to work to be honest! ;0)
Well, I have been meaning to put on here the stuff Kelly and I got up to on our holiday at the end of July, but have kept running out of time! Finally, though, I have managed to sit down and post this on my blog. Just can’t believe it was over a month ago now! Time has gone by so quickly!
Anyways, what did we get up to?
Well the weather was pants for most of the two weeks so we didn’t go to the beach, and didn’t even have a BBQ. We went to the cinema three times to watch Hancock (not bad), Prince Caspian (very good) and, of course, Batman: The Dark Knight (excellent!). We were hoping to go and see The Mummy 3 and The X-Files 2 but ran out of time and money in the end. Will just have to get them on DVD!
Apart from the cinema, we went to the Monkey Sanctuary in Looe with Kelly’s Nan and sister, but it was terrible there. The price to get in was £6 which was ridiculous and we didn’t spend more than 90 mins there. It was all run down and there were no monkeys to be seens, apart from the occasion one that showed itself. We definitely won’t be going there again! On the same day, we also stopped off in Looe for an Ice Cream and a wander around, which was better.
We went to Buckfast Abbey and Fernworthy Reservoir with my Mum, and stopped off at the Toby Carvery for tea, which was very nice even though it was so busy there.
Kelly and I also travelled down to Bodmin Moor to see all the old sites such as The Hurlers and other Pagan sites, Golitha Falls, Siblyback Water Park and Colliford Lake. I especially like Siblyback as it looks like it is a lovely place to Kayak and is a very nice place just to visit for a picnic or a drink in the Cafe. Luckily the weather was pretty good all day, so it made it all a lot nicer.
I think that was all the places we visited in the end due to the weather, but we did spend a couple of days sorting out the babies room. I had to take down the bunk beds that were in the room, and put up a couple of shelves, as well as putting together the cot and various other items. We then manahed to wash and dry all the baby clothes that we have gathered so far and put them away in the drawers. The room looked very nice once we had finished with it, and you can see pictures of it on the Babyblog.
We did also watch loads of films and played on the Gamecube a lot (I got hooked on Tiger Woods Golf as usual!), but apart from the weather, it was a really good two weeks holiday!
Hi all, haven’t updated my blog for a couple of months so I am going to try and add a few new posts on here over the next few days to give you all an update of what we have been getting up to during our 2 weeks holiday.
Well….as you can see from the title of this post, we spent the first weekend in Weymouth staying with Kelly’s Aunt, Uncle and Cousins. We were originally going to go up to Scotland to stay for two weeks with Kelly’s family, but because Kelly is quite far through her pregnancy, we didn’t want to risk flying up there and the road trip would have been too long for her. So we went to Weymouth instead.
We had a great time there, and the weather was fantastic (if you can believe it!) all weekend. In fact, it was the hottest couple of days of the year so far, so we couldn’t have timed it any better!!
What did we get up to?? Well, we went up on the Friday evening after work so didn’t have time to do anything that night, although Aunty Claire made us a lovely Lasagne (I could eat it now!), so we just relaxed for the evening.
Saturday morning, Uncle Mike and myself went out to Portland harbour kayaking, which was great. This was only the second time that I had been out kayaking but I think it is brilliant and so relaxing. We kayaked all the way out to the end of the harbour, and circled around a huge container loaded boat which was docked out there. The weather was good although not too hot which was perfect really. Kelly and the others went to get groceries for the BBQ we were going to have for tea, whilst we were out. During the afternoon, we took a trip into Weymouth Town Centre as Kelly had some vouchers to spend in Mothercare, and we had our usual Shakies milkshake which was lovely. An excellent BBQ in the evening rounded the day off nicely!
On Sunday we spent the day at Monkeyworld, which was a good day out. The weather was the hottest all year, so we had to have plenty of drinks and ice cream. We then had Chinese for tea which was very nice as well.
Monday was the day we came home, but we didn’t leave until the evening, so we popped back into Weymouth Town Centre during the morning, and then went to Portland Bill during the afternoon. Had a wander around there and had a game of French Bowls which Bev won. We then had a BBQ for tea, but just as we started eating, the weather broke and it started to rain. So we had to rush everything inside, but it was still very nice.
We had a great weekend and we were sad to leave, but hopefully we will see them all again soon! 😉
